Garage cinema continued

Image
All of the framework is now built, and the walls have been plasterboarded as have the ceilings.  Tomorrow the plasterer is coming, and at the weekend we should be able to give it a coat of paint or two!  There's a recess on the left hand wall of the room for a radiator, which will then have some panelling fitted over it so it can't be seen. The panelling at the end of the room hides away the incoming gas and electricity, and the consumer unit. Each side has a large removable panel for access and maintenance. I'll add some more photos mid week of the plastering, and then another update towards the end of the week with some paint on the walls! I also have some lighting cables I need to fish out and some downlights to fit.

Finished baffle wall for garage cinema

More progress today with the baffle wall construction. The main job was to create an MDF face to fit onto the framework - this photo shows the first board cut to size and fixed in place ready to measure up for the speaker cut outs. The way I got the cut outs just right is to reach behind and use a pencil to run along the top edge of the shelf, drawing a line on the back of the MDF. Click through to see more photos of how it ended up!

Baffle wall continued

Quick update with todays progress. I've run the cables for the left, centre and right loudspeaker, a power cable and signal cable for the subwoofer and some lighting cables for the downlighters above the screen which will be on there own circuit. These are really only for effect - the plan is to cast some light on the screen surface when the system isn't on, but will be completely off when a movie is being watched. Once the cables were in, I've filled the back wall with 100mm insulation to help absorb any energy in the baffle wall from the speakers and sub. Tomorrow's job is to cut, glue and screw the MDF to the front of the baffle wall, with holes cut for the speakers and subwoofer. Keep checking back for more updates ;)

Garage Cinema - How to build a baffle wall

So for a while I've been planning the conversion of our small single garage into a small cinema room, and today I finally got a chance to start work. I've already had the up-and-over door blocked up a while back, so the next job is to construct a baffle wall for the front speakers to fit into as well as the subwoofer. Here's the first piece of timber glued and screwed onto the ceiling, with the left, right and bottom lengths measured and cut ready to go. Click through to see the progress today!
