Garage cinema continued

All of the framework is now built, and the walls have been plasterboarded as have the ceilings.  Tomorrow the plasterer is coming, and at the weekend we should be able to give it a coat of paint or two!  There's a recess on the left hand wall of the room for a radiator, which will then have some panelling fitted over it so it can't be seen. The panelling at the end of the room hides away the incoming gas and electricity, and the consumer unit. Each side has a large removable panel for access and maintenance.

I'll add some more photos mid week of the plastering, and then another update towards the end of the week with some paint on the walls! I also have some lighting cables I need to fish out and some downlights to fit.

A few years back, I was standing in a rock bar in Ibiza (the Pinguin Bar, but that's another story) chatting to a friend of a friend about photography. He introduced me to the concept of HDR over a few beers, so I went back home and did some learning. There are many places where you can read about how HDR works, but this is the quick and dirty answer. Cameras can't see as well as the human eye (which is pretty shit hot when it comes to seeing stuff) - a great example of this is during F1 (Grand Prix? Motorsport? Oh, nevermind...) where a car goes through a tunnel - as the end of the tunnel approaches all you can see is a huge white light. Now, when I drive my car through a tunnel and out the other side I don't have this problem, as my eyes kick the camera's arse at this.

Finished baffle wall for garage cinema

More progress today with the baffle wall construction. The main job was to create an MDF face to fit onto the framework - this photo shows the first board cut to size and fixed in place ready to measure up for the speaker cut outs. The way I got the cut outs just right is to reach behind and use a pencil to run along the top edge of the shelf, drawing a line on the back of the MDF. Photoshopped London Phone Box Originally uploaded by Daveaphillips I wanted to make a moody version of this photo so I dived into Photoshop, desaturated some of the sky and darkened areas of the image, leaving colour only in the phone box. I think this photo now feels more like London really is.
